While serving 18 months in prison on charges of forgery, Johnny (Al Pacino) discovered the joy cooking and classical literature. After his release, he as a short order cook malformed New York diner owner, Nick (Hector Elizondo) hired. Also work in the cozy dining, the only waitress named Frankie (Michelle Pfeiffer) extrovert and her friend, Cora (Kate Nelligan) is. Johnny and Cora the shiftless one night stand before life began to express interest in Frankie. He tries him at arm's length, but eventually relents and agrees to keep going out with him. When Johnny comes home to Frankie, he met his best friend and neighbor gay team (Nathan Lane), Frankie convinced that the chances in life. Things reach boiling point in the bowling alley that the Frankie begs Johnny to leave him alone and stop saying he loves her. He finally shows his distrust of men from non-guar incident in his past life and try to get him to let him enter
