The Tour de France – the toughest bicycle race of all, celebrated its 100th birthday and Academy Award winning German based director Pepe Danquart was there to produce a terrific film on the T-Mobile Team.
First raced in 1903 over an amazing 2428 kilometres, the Tour de France set the bench for cyclists all over the world and continues to do so. Just as with the original race where only 21 of the 60 starters managed to finish, the Tour de France has always tested the limits of endurance of professional cyclists, and success is measured not only in stage wins or by the Maillot jaune, but on whether or not one actually makes it to the Champs Elysйs in Paris. In 2003, during the centenary year of the Tour de France, Hell on Wheels followed the exploits of the German cycling team, Telekom as they competed in “the greatest cycling event in the world”.
